Important Notes:

The legacy Google Analytics, known as Universal Analytics, or simply "UA," is no longer supported. The integration in CrystalCommerce's system does not work with a UA ID anymore, nor does Google collect data through UA properties anyway.

Set Up Google Analytics 4 (GA4)

Follow the instructions provided by Google at the link below, and after you finish the step titled "Add a data stream," come back to this CrystalCommerce help article and follow our instructions down below titled "Enabling GA4 on your CrystalCommerce site"

Enabling GA4 on your CrystalCommerce site

First, you'll find the Google Tag ID for the data stream you made when you followed the Google documentation, then you'll enter that ID into the CrystalCommerce admin in the integration. Follow the steps below:

  1. Find the Google Tag ID for the data stream

    1. In Google Analytics, click Admin.

    2. Make sure you are in the correct account and property.

    3. In the Property column, click Data streams.

    4. Click the data stream for which you need the ID.

    5. In the Google tag section, click Configure tag settings.

    6. In the Your Google tag section, copy the ID that starts with "G-" or "AW-".

  2. Enter the ID into the CrystalCommerce integration

    1. Log into your CrystalCommerce admin, and navigate to Account > Integrations > Google Analytics

    2. In the first text field on that page, enter the Google Tag ID you just copied from your analytics account (It will be in a format similar to "G-XXXXX"). DO NOT put the ID in the second field, which is for Google Tag Manager (GTM), as that is a separate feature.

FAQ

CrystalCommerce helped set up my GA in the past. What do I do?

You have a couple of options:

  1. Do some investigation to determine who has access to your GA account, what the login info is, and so on. If you can't find any access, contact us and we can investigate to see if we have any info. After you figure that out and get access to your account, you'll just need to follow the instructions in this help article, starting at the top, being sure to create a new property and set up the new analytics 4. (The existing Universal Analytics property will no longer be used)

  2. Or, you can create an entirely new analytics account and start from scratch, but this option is less ideal as you will lose access to historical data and other options such as migrating old settings to the new GA4 property.
